SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 10, 2025) – Addressing putting up visitors in residential areas will be voted on by the Saugatuck City Council on Monday evening.
During last week’s study session, the governing panel of that Lakeshore community considered adjusting the city’s Bed and Breakfast rules to allow owners to have guests stay in accessory buildings as well as in the main housing structure. Two such requests made this past December prompted the Saugatuck Planning Commission to recommend this ordinance amendment proposal.
Also discussed last week was a report, compiled by City Manager Ryan Cummins and Director of Planning and Zoning Luke Thompson, on the implementation of new Short-Term Rental regulations, including the lottery system for licenses, enforcing code regulations, and a toll free hotline for those wishing to report violations and complaints. That matter isn’t on the agenda for this evening’s business meeting.
What is on the agenda is a vote on approving the annual update to Saugatuck’s five-year capital improvement plan. As Cummins mentioned in his memo to council members, priorities often change based on current conditions and funding opportunities, and cost estimates are budgetary in nature, with refinement done during project development and design.
The Saugatuck City Council’s 6:30 PM biweekly business meeting is in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
