HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 27, 2025) – A long-time beacon of hope for the homeless in downtown Holland is moving.
Officials with Gateway Mission confirmed this week that their property off of West 7th Street and River Avenue has been sold to an unnamed developer for an undisclosed amount, and work on converting the former Davenport University building off of Waverly Road and East 24th Street into the new Men’s Mission began earlier this month. As part of the purchase agreement, Gateway will be allowed to continue operations at the former Holland Furniture Company office site rent-free until these renovations are complete.
Jason Parks, Community Relations Specialist for the mission, explained why the move away from this site after 41 years, and from the downtown area for nearly a century, was made.
Gateway hopes to complete the move to the 34,400 square-foot building by the end of 2025.
