HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 23, 2025) – An overnight robbery of a ATM at a credit union branch on Holland’s North Side led to a police chase, crash, and subsequent arrest during the overnight hours on Sunday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Shane Ryke, dispatchers sent deputies to the Lake Trust Credit Union branch off of West Shore Drive around 3:15 PM on a report of a man breaking into a money machine there. The suspect sped off in a sedan before deputies arrived at the scene, but the vehicle was spotted by other deputies turning off of Greenly Street onto northbound US-31 at a high rate of speed.
A sheriff’s prowl car was able to catch up with the vehicle, which then crashed into the median of the divided highway near Barry Street, and the suspect fled the scene on foot. Deputies and Holland Public Safety Police Service units set up a perimeter, and a sheriff’s department canine was able to track the suspect to some industrial equipment nearby, where he was subsequently arrested without further incident. No injuries were reported.
The suspect, a 26-year-old Venezuelan national living in the Chicagoland area, is in the Ottawa County Jail awaiting arraignment on various charges. The incident remains under investigation.
