GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 11, 2025) – There were some tense moments for several hours in a Grand Haven neighborhood on Monday before a man that was holed up at a residence surrendered.
The incident began around 10:20 AM on a report of an assault, with someone armed with a gun, at a home in the area of Franklin Avenue near Beacon Boulevard (US-31). After initial attempts to speak with the suspect, a perimeter was established, and neighbors were told to stay inside and away from the two-block area cordoned off.
An “extensive negotiation period” of nearly six hours commenced, with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department Critical Response Team deployed. Public Safety officials say “less lethal force” was used around 4:30 PM to subdue the unnamed suspect, but didn’t say what method was deployed. The man was taken to the Ottawa County Jail pending arraignment in 58th District Court on two counts of felonious assault.
Authorities say that there was no threat to neighbors, nearby schools and businesses, with no injuries reported. The incident remains under investigation.
