
The Hope College baseball team placed third in the 2025 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
The Flying Dutchmen totaled 36 points in the eight-team poll, trailing unanimous preseason favorite Adrian College (49 points) and second-place Kalamazoo College (43 points). Coaches could not vote for their team. Adrian collected seven first-place votes, Kalamazoo one.
Hope finished ahead of fourth-place Alma College (32), fifth-place Albion College (22), sixth-place Calvin University (19), seventh-place Trine University (13) and eighth-place The University of Olivet (10).
Led by first-year head coach Ryan Dorow, the Flying Dutchmen return two of their three All-MIAA honorees last season, including Most Valuable and first-team pitcher Trent Johnson and second-team designated hitter Cade Seabaugh.
Johnson (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow HS) went 7-4 with a 3.28 ERA last season as a junior. The right-hander recorded career-highs with 82.1 innings and 55 strikeouts.
Seabaugh (Ballwin, Missouri / Ladue Horton) will play first base this season after battomg .328 with seven home runs and 27 runs batted in during the 2024 season.
Hope opens the season on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 21-22, with three games in Kentucky. The Flying Dutchmen first face Heidelberg University (Ohio) on Feb. 21 at 4:30 p.m.
The home opener for Hope is scheduled for Tuesday, March 25, at 1 p.m. against Manchester University (Indiana) at Boeve Baseball Stadium.
The Flying Dutchmen begin MIAA play with a three-game series on Friday-Saturday, March 28-29, against Trine University. Hope hosts the opener on March 28 at 4 p.m. at Boeve Baseball Stadium.
Dorow was introduced as the 10th head coach for Hope College baseball on May 31, 2024. He previously served on the Flying Dutchmen coaching staff for two years. In 2024, Dorow was the team’s recruiting coordinator under head coach Stu Fritz, who retired following the 2024 season.
As an undergraduate, Dorow was a decorated four-year starter at Adrian College. He was a three-time, All-American recipient along with three-time MIAA Position Player of the Year.
After graduating from Adrian College, Dorow was drafted by the Texas Rangers. In his seven years playing professionally, he was named Organizational Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 along with a Carolina League All-Star in 2019. He made his Major League debut against the Cleveland Guardians during the 2021 season.
