OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 30, 2025) – January is NOT road construction season along the Lakeshore, despite what a cement hauler did between Holland and Grand Haven on Thursday morning.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the junction of US-31 and Port Sheldon Street in West Olive shortly after 9 AM, on a report of cement spilled onto the roadway. It appeared that a northbound hauler, driven by a 47-year-old Grand Rapids man, had to hit the brakes “abruptly,” according to Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, when a passenger vehicle pulled out in front of the truck. That caused about one to two yards of cement to fall out of the mixer, and deputies had to close the roadway for about an hour and a half to clean up the mess.
The unnamed driver was not hurt, and Wildfong didn’t say if any other vehicles were damaged as a result of the incident, which remains under investigation.
