ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 20, 2025) – A lightning rod of attention whenever a municipal body’s meeting agenda is published ahead of time is the word “Assessment.”
Such a “Special Assessment” resolution is before the Zeeland City Council during its Tuesday work-study and business sessions. The governing panel is asked to adopt such a document that would allow the city assessor to develop a special assessment roll for presentation to the Council.
Mayor Kevin Klynstra explained what this additional levy, directed at downtown business and property owners, is all about.
It’s not something entirely new in Zeeland.
Should this resolution be passed, the assessor is expected to develop the special assessment roll for Council’s consideration at its next business meeting on February 3rd.
Among the other issues before the governing panel are endorsements for corridor and beautification reports involving the renovation of Washington Avenue, as well as renewing an annual contract with Issue Media Group to continue the online monthly publication of The Lakeshore West Michigan.
The Zeeland City Council’s Tuesday work-study session is at 6 PM, followed by the 7 PM business meeting, both in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
