George was born on March 14, 1941 to Lexor and Wilma Nevins, the 6th of 7 children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lexor and Wilma; Mother and Father-in-law, Wayne and Mary Zahm; Sister, Gwendolyn (Glendon) Brown; Sister in law’s Nona Brown and Judy Blain; Brothers, Donald (Peggy) Nevins, Jack (Joyce) Nevins, Robert Nevins, Brother in law’s; Marvin Kipp, Daniel DeShaw and Robert Hansell.
George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan (Zahm) Nevins; his children, Todd (Renee) Nevins, Father Troy Nevins, Marisa (Christopher) Elms, Karolyn (Michael) Bishop and Geordan Nevins; 16 Grandchildren, Raelynn (Hayley) Turner, Megan Wolschleger, Jonah Bishop, Madelyn Bishop (Jon Bly), Kaitlyn Bishop(Josh Heistan), Elijah Bishop, Samuel Bishop(Tori Talbot), Brendan (Desteny) Elms, Noah Elms (Alyssa Misiak), Rachel (Evan) Pepper, Logan Elms(Elece Vandergeld), Ethan Elms, Riley (Hunter) Geoghegan, Dominik Nevins(Emmie Happ), McKenzie and Isabelle Nevins; Sisters, Marilyn Hardy and Carolyn (Harv) Gort; Brother-in-law, Richard (Bonnie) Zahm; Sister-in-law’s Sandy Nevins, Gale Hansell, Cheryl (Marlowe) Valk, Joyce (Tony) Massey; long-time friend, Gordon Butterfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
George was known for his sarcastic sense of humor and quick wit. He was an avid golfer and if he wasn’t playing, he was watching on TV. George was a big U of M fan and loved cheering on his favorite Red Wings, Lions and Tigers teams. George and Sue always made an effort to support their grandchildren, whether it was at a sporting event, or a band or choir concert, they were there letting them know how proud they were.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 6-8pm at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave SE Grand Rapids, MI 49506. Funeral services will take place Thursday, January 16 at 11am with a luncheon at the church immediately following. A private burial is planned at Rosedale Memorial Park.
