ALLEN PARK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Lions have removed rookie safety Jalen Elliott from the Covid-19 reserve list.
Elliott, who is on the practice squad, was on the list for four days. He also spent two weeks on Covid-19 reserve during training camp.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford and linebacker Jarrad Davis were also placed on the list last week. Stafford was off the list in time to play in Detroit’s loss to Minnesota on Sunday and Davis was removed on Monday.
The team has been in Covid protocol but will return to practice today.
The NFL is seeing a jump in COVID-19 cases. The league and NFL Players Association announced Tuesday that there were 56 positive tests for the week of November 1st through 7th. Fifteen of the positives were players and the other 41 were team personnel. That’s up from a total of 25 total positive tests the week before, including eight players.
NFL owners have approved a contingency plan for the playoffs if Covid-19 cancels games affecting potential postseason teams. The plan would expand the playoff field to 16 if late season meaningful games cannot be played due to the virus. The league expanded the postseason from 12 to 14 teams in the offseason before the pandemic.
