LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 4, 2024) – Two projects, one in the city of Allegan and another just south of the Allegan County Line, are in line for some road funding from Lansing for needed improvements.
The office of Governor Whitmer announced on Wednesday that up to $375,000 from the Transportation Economic Development Fund will go towards the nearly $788,000 price tag to resurface Airway Drive from Grand Street to Industrial Drive. That roadway is the major connector from M-222 though the Allegan Highland Business Park. The work will also include replacing curbs and gutters, along with sidewalk improvements to meet Americans with Disability Act standards. The City of Allegan will provide the rest of the funding for this project.
In addition, up to $100,000-plus is going to the Van Buren County Road Commission to resurface Kalamazoo Street near South Haven, from the Blue Star Highway to that city’s limit, improving commercial traffic into that industrial area. The commission will handle the rest of the funding for the $125,000 project.
The Category F grants in both of these matters is aimed at improving access to the state’s all-season system, or improving safety and all-season capabilities on routes having high commercial traffic, for urban areas of up to 5,000 in population, or counties with less than 400,000 in population. These grants were among nine awarded statewide totaling nearly three million dollars.
