He was the beloved son of the late Ralph Eugene Schenck and Frieda Aldinger Schenck. Bob was a longtime resident of Valparaiso, Indiana, where he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend. In 1959 he graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, where he met and fell in love with fellow Boilermaker Liz Hackel. They married on September 9, 1961, and celebrated 63 years together this fall.
In 1964 Bob designed and built a beautiful home in the new Oakwood Estates neighborhood where he and Liz raised their four children. He had a passion for fixing things and would often lend a helping hand to others. Bob worked for years at David E. McDaniel Fire Protection and successfully led the company as its Chief Executive Officer, treating everyone there with encouragement and respect. He ran the trails at the Indiana Dunes six days a week and competed in the annual Popcorn Panic. He golfed with the same foursome–a fixture at the Valparaiso Country Club–for decades. Bob greatly valued our national parks and visited them with his family, along the way singing in the car to The Kingston Trio, Peter, Paul and Mary, and The Moody Blues. He lived a good life, and we were lucky to have him in ours.
He is survived by wife Elizabeth “Liz” Schenck, sons Mark and Brett Schenck, daughter Kathleen Schenck, and grandchildren.
