ROBINSON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 12, 2024) – One of two men from Muskegon pulled from a boat that had in capsized in the Grand River southeast of Grand Haven on Monday afternoon has died.
On Tuesday, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong said that 77-year-old Davie Gordon was pronounced dead at Trinity Health in Muskegon after arriving there following the 2:30 PM Monday incident off of North Cedar Drive between 104th and 108th avenues. A nearby resident heard shouts for help and called 911, and deputies determined that the two men had been out fishing in an aluminum boat.
When they started back towards shore, the vessel was caught by a wave and capsized, sending the fishermen into the water. They had been clinging to the boat when a Robinson Township fire rescue craft was deployed to rescue them.
Gordon was unresponsive when pulled from the water, and following CPR efforts at the scene by rescue workers, he and the unnamed fellow boater were taken to the Muskegon medical facility. Wildfong gave no word as to the name or condition of the other boater involved.
The incident remains under investigation.
