Harvard Vanden Bosch, age 87, a steady and faithful man of God, went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 6, 2024.
Harv was born in Borculo, Michigan, on June 28, 1937, the oldest child of George Vanden Bosch and Carrie Schout. He graduated from Holland Christian High School, Calvin College, and the University of Michigan. Married to his beloved Laura (Lolly) Vander Zee for nearly sixty years, he was also the loving father of two children and grandfather of three.
As one of the founding architects of Sluiter-Vanden Bosch Associates, he designed many churches and businesses, and notably, Holland Christian Middle School. He served on the Historic District Commission, loved New Urbanism, and was a champion of small, efficient spaces. Harv was a longtime member of Maranatha Christian Reformed Church and quietly lived his faith every day.
A man of few words, Harv loved and accepted each person he met, greeting all with a warm smile and a dry chuckle. He enjoyed Lake Michigan, sailing, University of Michigan football and Tigers baseball, visiting with friends and “the Calvin gang,” traveling with his son on business trips, hanging out with his daughter’s dogs, picking berries, helping neighbors, volunteering at Holland City Mission (now Gateway), supporting the Critter Barn, and cheering on his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2020.
He will be missed by his three siblings: Don (Jan) Vanden Bosch, Jan Fischer, and Mary (John) Blauwkamp, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
And he leaves a hole in the heart of his small family: daughter, Kay Kossen; son, Jeff and Lori Vanden Bosch; and grandchildren, Kyle Kossen, Lauren Vanden Bosch and Jacob Vanden Bosch.
Dad, we love you. Thank you for everything.
