SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 28, 2024) – Dealing with two pieces of property the city owns outside of the city limits are matters before the Saugatuck City Council during its biweekly business meeting at 6:30 PM on Monday evening.
One involves the former airport property off of 63rd Street and 134th Avenue. The city this spring entered into an agreement with Holland’s Outdoor Discovery Center to develop trails and signage, create a trailhead and parking area, combat invasives, and restore habitat to the 170-acre site. Along those lines, ODC wants a conservation easement established for the eastern portion of the property, on land in a floodplain that has a steep grade, with part of it being wetlands.
The other site is an old landfill property off of I-196 near 134th Avenue where Saugatuck Township is looking to construct cross-country running trails for Saugatuck Public Schools. Council will be asked to approve a six-month development due diligence agreement with the township in order to see if such a proposal can become a reality.
The Saugatuck City Council’s session is in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
