HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Eighty-eight Ottawa County residents have now died from COVID-19 since mid-March. Currently, nearly 3,500 people have the virus. County officials say contact tracers are so overwhelmed, they have asked state officials to provide extra help. If you’ve recently tested positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed, someone from the State or health department will contact you. Please be patient as we are experiencing a high volume of positive cases in our community. In the meantime, please stay away from others and stay home.
Allegan County recorded the death of an eighth resident, after nearly two months without any. More than 950 Allegan County residents are ill; more than 400 are being monitored after close contact with someone who has COVID-19. The rolling daily average number of Allegan County residents being diagnosed hit 58 people over the weekend.
Holland Hospital’s website shows 42 people admitted for treatment of severe COVID-19. Spectrum Health’s website shows 242 COVID-19 patients, with three waiting for test results. Spectrum Health officials indicated late last week they are concerned about reaching capacity. Both hospitals have restricted visitation as one way of reducing the spread of the virus.
Free drive-thru COVID-19 tests are set for 3 to 7: 30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at Zeeland City Fire/Rescue. 29 W. Main Avenue in Zeeland.
You don’t need a lab slip or to be a resident of the county to get this test. People under the age of 18 need permission from a parent or guardian. You do need to provide contact information, for contact-tracing purposes, should you be diagnosed with COVID-19.
The tests are set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following Saturdays, at the Allegan County Transportation Building, 750 Airway Drive, Allegan
