OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 17, 2024) – The ongoing political drama at the Fillmore Street Complex continues.
During a special meeting held on Wednesday, the Ottawa County Board approved the appointment of Ben Wetmore as interim county administrator, to succeed Jon Anderson, who had served notice to resign in early September, agreed to stay on through the end of the year on a part-time basis while the search for a permanent operational leader is conducted, and announced last weekend his complete withdrawal from county government due to work commitments.
Fourth District Commissioner Jacob Bonnema of Zeeland, who was in the minority opposing the elevation of Deputy Commissioner Wetmore to the temporary leadership position, cited staff disapproval of Wetmore since his arrival last November.
Following the meeting, the county put out a public notice on applications for the permanent county administrator position, which is being handled by retained recruitment firm W Talent Solutions. Ottawa County has not had such an operational leader since John Gibbs was dismissed last spring.
