HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 10, 2024) – A proposal by a city of Holland official has received plaudits, and money, from Lansing in a program that takes its cue from television’s “Shark Tank.”
Last week, city Sustainability Manager Dan Broersma went over a planned Recycling Drop-Off Center that would enable residents in the Tulip City and its environs to bring renewables to a central location before the NextCycle Michigan 2024 Fall Showcase in suburban Detroit. This was one of 15 initiatives put forward in individual five-minute presentations and five-minute question-and-answer sessions.
Broersma was able to land “best in show” and “people’s choice” honors, and along with participating in the six-month-long program, secured $17,500 towards the construction of the center. City officials say that the project is still in the planning stage, with no timetable established for its construction.
NextCycle Michigan is a program from the state Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy designed to promote the advancement of material recovery, reuse and recycling.
