Ronald James Pothoven, age 87, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 1, 2024.
Ron was born in Denver, Colorado on November 21, 1936. The family moved to Holland, Michigan when Ron was 9 years old where he attended Holland Christian Schools, graduating in 1954. He earned a B.A. degree from Calvin College in 1958 and an M.A. degree in 1960 from Michigan State University. He taught at Allendale Christian and Holland Christian for a total of 39 years. At HCHS, he coached track for several years and tennis for many years after that.
He was very active in serving as an elder numerous times and singing in various choirs. Singing in His Men for a number of years was one of his personal favorites. Ron also deeply loved family vacations and gatherings.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Garret & Stella Pothoven; in-laws, Peter & Janet Buteyn; sister & her husband, Carol & Dale Topp; sister, Marcia; and brother-in-law, Lee Koning.

A memorial service is planned for 1:00pm Friday, September 6, at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Road, Holland (please use doors D & E). Rev. Gary Matthews will officiate. A private family burial is planned in West Drenthe Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 6:00-8:00pm Thursday, September 5, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S State St., Zeeland. Memorial contributions may be made to Holland Christain Schools and Faith Hospice.
