ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 3, 2024) – Tom Jessup is apparently just keeping the Allegan County Board District 3 seat warm for the next occupant.
The long-time commissioner, who was named two weeks ago to replace the late Dean Kapenga in representing the southwest corner of the county on the governing panel, won’t have his name on the November 5th General Election ballot. The executive committee of the Allegan County Republican Party voted to nominate Brad Lubbers of the Fennville area for the spot on the ballot that was vacated by Kapenga’s death on August 5th, and County Clerk Bob Genetski said that he would agree with that request. Lubbers has been considered by the board to replace Kapenga before the panel decided on Jessup.
Allegan County Democrats did not submit a name by the April deadline for the District 3 election, but Christi Allen, also from the Fennville area, will reportedly submit her name as a write-in candidate. She was the Democratic party nominee six years ago, but lost to Kapenga by over a thousand votes.
