HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 27, 2024) – Nobody was hurt after a blaze at a home in Holland overnight on Tuesday.
Public Safety Department Fire Services crews were dispatched around 12:40 AM to a two-unit dwelling in the 300 block of West 19th Street, between Cleveland and Harrison avenues. When they arrived, they saw flames coming out of several second story windows.
Despite what was described as poor conditions and heavy smoke, firefighters were able to get up into the second floor apartment unit to put out the blaze and look for any possible occupants. They were able to confirm that everyone inside was able to get out safely, and stayed at the scene for about three hours to put out any hidden flames and to salvage what could be salvaged from the apartment below. The affected unit suffered significant fire damage, with flames going through the roof.
Fire Marshal Bret Groendyke’s investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and an initial dollar estimate on damage has yet to be made.
