HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 21, 2024) – Lakewood Place Apartment Village, a 190- unit development in Holland, Michigan, has officially broken ground, marking a significant milestone in addressing the region’s critical need for affordable housing.
The project, led by Geerlings Development Company and KJK Real Estate Management, is one of the largest mixed-income housing developments in the area. This $40 million venture, supported by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s (MSHDA) Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), will be completed in phases between April 2025 and 2026.
The development will feature a blend of affordable and market-rate apartments, alongside 10,000 square feet of commercial space, creating a vibrant, connected community where residents can live, work, and thrive.
The project’s significance is underscored by MSHDA’s allocation of $27 million in LIHTC funding, highlighting the importance of this development in meeting Holland’s housing needs. The project embodies the long-term vision of its developers, who have successfully navigated its challenges with strategic guidance from Housing Next, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring communities have sufficient housing across all price points.
The development will feature bike paths that provide easy access to these areas, while nearby retail corridors further enhance convenience for residents.
