COOPERSVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 21, 2024) – A six-year-old boy was struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of a Coopersville motel on Tuesday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Shane Ryke, a 44-year-old Saginaw man was apparently driving his vehicle “at an appropriate speed” around 6:45 PM outside of the Rodeway Inn off of O’Malley Drive. The unnamed youth was learning how to operate an electronic hoverboard under the supervision of an older brother when he darted out between parked vehicles and under the truck, which struck the child with the rear tire.
The boy was taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and was initially listed in stable condition. The driver was not hurt.
The matter remains under investigation.
