HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 22, 2024) – Persistence apparently has paid off as another convenience store/fueling station will emerge soon on Holland’s South Side.
During Wednesday night’s biweekly business meeting, the Holland City Council unanimously approved a request to rezone about two tenths of an acre near the junction of Lincoln Avenue (M-40) and US-31 from a manufactured housing community to corridor mixed use. This was the final hurdle before the establishment of a proposed Kum and Go outlet on land currently owned by Willow Park Mobile Home Park.
The site plan and special use permit application had been approved by the city’s Planning Commission last year, along with a recommended rezoning, but council members failed to pass the measure 14 months ago. In continuing to recommend the proposal, Planning Commission felt that the small site was not suitable enough to expand the current mobile home community that is adjacent to it. In a January commission meeting, there was no public comment received on the matter. After consulting with the city attorney’s office, in which it was within the legal time frame for reapplying, the issue is once again before Council members.
The measure was approved by all seven council members in attendance, with Fifth Ward Councilman Scott Corbin, whose district includes this site, not present. Corbin was the most vocal opponent of the proposal when it first came up last summer.
