Kathleen Zsofia Baarman, 80, of Holland, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024, at her home.
Kathy was born July 12, 1944, in Mateszalka, Hungary, to Geza and Matilda (Oszten) Gyene. Kathy, her parents, and two sisters escaped Hungary during the 1956 revolution through Austria. The Red Cross and Highland Hills CRC in Grand Rapids sponsored the Gyene family to immigrate to West Michigan. After immigrating Kathy later met Jerry Baarman and they married in 1963. As an adult, Kathy accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. Accepting Jesus didn’t remove all the challenges she faced, but it gave her the assurance that she would spend eternity with God and that He would walk with her through every trial. She became so passionate about this truth that she dedicated much of her life to sharing her story with others across North America, speaking at Christian Women’s Clubs, Stonecroft Ministries, and other gatherings. Jerry and Kathy raised their four sons in Holland, Michigan, and they are members of Family Church. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Babi Poor.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jerry, their sons: Rick (Wanda) Baarman, Brian (Nancy) Baarman, Michael (Susan) Baarman, Tamas (Karla) Baarman, ten grandchildren: Alyssa, Jessie, Jamie, Andrew, Kaitlin, Jena, Amanda, Cassidy, Kelsey, Will; great-grandchildren: Linkon, Beckett, Ava Zsofia; sisters: Elizabeth Holwerda, Zita Vigh; sister-in-law Nancy Kolenbrander, and many extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 19, 2024, at Family Church Grace Campus, 9530 Woodbridge Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will be 3:00-6:00 PM, Sunday, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery.
