Leona was born January 5, 1928 to George and Agnet Veltema in Jamestown Township. Leona was a charter member of Forest Grove Christian Reformed Church. She was co-owner of Hoeksema Hardware for 34 years and also worked for Quality Fuel in Zeeland for several years. She taught Sunday school for many years.
Leona was preceded in death by: her husband, Donald in 2011; a daughter, Beverly Mac Brien in 2007; parents, George and Agnet Veltema; siblings, Stuart (Lorna, June), George Jr (Jean), Marvin (Cornelia), Maxine, Evelyn (Ted); and brother-in-law, Warren.
Leona is survived by: her sister, Verna; son-in-law, Paul Mac Brien; son, Dan (Linda) Boerman; daughter, Gayle (Phil) Poortenga; brother-in-law, Kenneth Ver Beek; Grandchildren, Kyle Poortenga, Jon Poortenga, Kate Poortenga, Laura Griffin, Melissa Gentner, Josh Boerman, Tim Mac Brien, Joy Povich, and Hope Staal; and 25 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Manor Reflections and Corewell Health Hospice Care for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Friday August 9, 2024 at Forest Grove Christian Reformed Church 3515 Perry St. Hudsonville, MI 49426. With a visitation 1 hour prior at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mission India or Potter’s House School.
