PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 2, 2024) – A one-time captain with the Graafschap Fire Department is behind bars on charges stemming from a child porn investigation.
Todd Achterhof is being held without bond after a Thursday arraignment in Holland District Court on several counts involving the possession and distribution of child sexually abusive materials. The 49-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday at his Park Township residence after a two-month-long investigation by Ottawa County Sheriff’s detectives and members of the FBI’s West Michigan Based Child Exploitation Task Force. Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks didn’t initially go into details what law enforcement found in the course of their probe.
According to WXMI-TV, Achterhof had been with the Fire Department for just over 27 years before his resignation on May 22nd for undisclosed reasons. The Grand Rapids television station also contacted Hope College, where the accused had been a full-time dispatcher, and the Holland school said that it found no criminal activity on campus or involving students when it was contacted by the FBI on this matter.
The investigation into Achterhof’s activities continues, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
