GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 1, 2024) – The evolution of a symbol of road construction work continues.
The Ottawa County Road Commission has begun deployment of temporary traffic signals at single-day maintenance projects. Aimed at replacing what is still commonly referred to as “flagmen,” it will allow two-way traffic to pass through a single-lane construction zone safely, according to Commission spokesman Alex Doty.
While temporary signals are common on long-term projects such as bridge reconstruction, the portability of these two units acquired by the OCRC makes these new tools valuable.
Motorists are expected to approach work zones with these traffic signals in the same way they would with live flaggers.
