Barbara Jean Hunt, age 84, passed away July 10, 2024 at American House Assisted Living in Holland MI.
Barbara was born May 2, 1940, to George and Jennie Cooley. She was raised on the family farm in Vicksburg/Mendon, MI, along with her two sisters Eleanor and Virginia. Barb loved to reminisce about her youth spent on the farm.
Barb attended Western Michigan University and it was there that she met the love of her life, Robert Hunt. They were married June 17, 1961. They soon moved to Holland, where they raised their family of three sons: Jeff, Todd and Ken. As retirement was nearing, they purchased land on Greenly St, which after several years of hard work, became Wa-Hu Blueberry Farm. Together Robert and Barbara, and their family, created many memories of the time spent at the farm. Barb loved working the Blueberry U-pick each summer and cherished the friendships she developed and looked forward to catching up each summer with new and old friends alike.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jennie Cooley; her husband of 61 years, Robert Hunt; and a granddaughter, Kelsey Hunt.
Left to cherish Barbara’s memory are her three sons and their wives, Jeffrey (Kristi), Todd (Nancy), and Kenneth (Sarah); six grandchildren, Lauren (Patrick) Fitzgerald, Brian Hunt, Sydney Hunt, Kaiden Hunt, Conner Hunt, and Natalie Hunt; one great-grandchild Phoebe Fitzgerald; sisters Eleanor Richardson and Virginia Wester; In-law brothers and sisters, David (Mary) Hunt, Carol (Brad) Hedrick; several nieces, nephews and cherished friends.
Services will be held July 23, 2024, at Dykstra Funeral Home – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Ave, Holland. Visitation will be held noon – 2pm, with funeral service immediately following. The family will attend the interment of ashes at Rest Lawn Memorial Garden, post service.
The family would like to recognize and thank the staff of American House and also Hospice of Holland for caring for both Robert and Barbara in their final days. Memorials may be made in memory of Barbara Hunt to Hospice of Holland.
