Lawrence (Larry) Den Uyl, 87, passed away at his home July 11. He was born September 9, 1936, and was married December 20, 1960, to Linda Gordon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Bruce (Beth Bustos) Den Uyl of Hudsonville; a daughter Diane Kintz of King George, VA; sister Joan (Sherwin) Vliem; brother Chuck (Sandy) Den Uyl; brother-in-law Robert (Sarah Vaillancourt) Gordon; sister-in-law Laurie Den Uyl; grandchildren, Kayla, Geoffrey, Alex, Arwen; great grandchildren, Sophia, Ian, Liliana; nieces and nephews.
Larry graduated from Holland High School in 1955, served in the U.S. Army for two years; attended GRCC and Davenport. He was an accountant at Coca-Cola, Lamb Automotive, and Holland Motor Express (where he became Secretary-Treasurer of the company).
He was predeceased by parents, Lester and Lerena Den Uyl; parents-in-law, Robert and Miriam Gordon; a son, David Den Uyl; a brother, Les Den Uyl.
Larry loved and participated in many sports; cross-country, basketball, softball, bowling, deer hunting, and golf. He was a long-time fan of Hope College men’s and women’s basketball. Besides family and sports, he derived great pleasure from many years at Hutchins Lake. He did much of the construction on their cottage. Entertaining friends and family brought much joy to Larry and Linda.
For many years he helped serve meals at Community Kitchen at Western Theological Seminary. He served as president of Holland Jaycees and Noon Kiwanis Club. He was also active in the Michigan Trucking Association. Larry was an active member of First United Methodist Church.
Arrangements for a memorial service at the church are being made by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home. A date is pending. Cremation has taken place. Memorial donations may be made to Holland First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Holland.
