(Reuters) – Nicaragua on Tuesday decreed the closure and seizure of assets belonging to Radio Maria, formerly run by prominent government critic Bishop Rolando Alvarez, who is now in the Vatican after receiving a lengthy prison sentence last year and later being expelled.
Radio Maria was one of Nicaragua’s few remaining media controlled by the Catholic Church, which has seen authorities seize many of its assets in the wake of clerics’ role as mediators during mass protests in 2018.
