ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 18, 2024) – A 70-year-old Allendale woman lost her life in a three-vehicle pileup west of her hometown on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Joshua McCarthy, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to Lake Michigan Drive (M-45) at 84th Avenue just before 1 PM. That was where a 20-year-old Allendale man, driving a sedan eastbound, struck a hatchback ahead of him from behind, forcing the smaller vehicle into westbound traffic, where it was hit broadside by a westbound semi tractor-trailer.
The woman driving the hatchback succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The younger man was also injured, although the extent of which was not disclosed by McCarthy, and the sergeant didn’t say if the 73-year-old Coopersville man driving the truck was hurt.
No names were immediately revealed, and the area was blocked off for several hours as a result of the collision, which remains under investigation.
