LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 23, 2024) – It was a mixed bag of results along the Lakeshore when the monthly not seasonally adjusted jobless rates for April was released on Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget.
While these unemployment marks were down in 15 of 17 major labor markets and in 68 of the 83 counties across the state, the mean fell in Ottawa County, from three percent even in March to 2.8 percent in April, tied for second lowest in Michigan, while Allegan County stayed level at 3.4 percent. Compared to a year ago, joblessness was up a half of a percentage point in Ottawa County, and six tenths in Allegan County – rates that were was consistent with what was seen elsewhere in the state.
The DTMB added that total employment and regional labor force levels were both down statewide over the month, but up from 2023 levels. A link to the latest report is here.
