Thomas E. Reagan, (“Tom”), 78, of Zeeland, Michigan, went home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, May 9. Tom was diagnosed with cancer in November, 2023, and bravely battled the disease through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Sadly, he suffered several complications following surgery on the first of May and passed away at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
Tom was born December 28, 1945, the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Tess Reagan in Grand Rapids. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Robert, sister Mary Elizabeth, and brother Gerald. He is survived by his loving wife Judy, a brother Patrick Reagan of Grand Rapids, a sister Patricia Fuller, of Brighton, and brother Michael Reagan and his wife Patricia of Grand Rapids.
Tom is survived by two daughters, Shannon, and her husband Ron Whitney, Jr., of Belding; and Heather, and her husband Ryan Hooper of Charlevoix. Tom is also survived by his grandchildren Grady, Finnian, and Emma Hooper, and Ron Whitney, III. Tom is also survived by his stepchildren, John TenBroeke and fiancé Janna DeWitte of Hudsonville; Michelle Paulsen and husband Michael of Canton, MI; and Matthew TenBroeke and wife Kerry of Zeeland; step-grandchildren Rachel and Eric Paulsen, and Madison and Owen TenBroeke.
Tom graduated from Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids. He began his career at a young age as a Grand Rapids Press carrier and continued there in various positions, eventually working his way into a management position. He retired from the Press in 2009 after 42 years. Tom was well liked by his many friends and colleagues who enjoyed his quick wit, storytelling and humor. He enjoyed nothing more than a warm summer day on various golf courses, and he often said, with a smile, that he worked hard at keeping his score high to make his golf buddies look good.
Tom and Judy attend Christ Memorial Church in Holland, and Tom has enjoyed singing in the choir for the last three years. He was also a Kids’ Hope Mentor for several years and was proud to be a volunteer for both Montcalm County and Lakeshore Habitat for Humanity. Tom took pride in his work for Habitat and happily painted the front door of every newly constructed home in whatever color the new homeowner selected. He was honored to be chosen as Lakeshore Habitat’s Volunteer of the Year in 2016.
Tom’s Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 17, 2024, in the Sanctuary of Christ Memorial Church (Please use Entrance C), 595 Graafschap Rd., Holland MI 49423.
