SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 13, 2024) – Two items of interest are on the agenda for the biweekly Saugatuck City Council meeting on Monday evening.
The governing panel is expected to approve a resolution formally seeking a Michigan Drinking Water State Revolving Fund program loan through improvements to the city’s water system. Utility officials say that there is a potential risk in lead service lines that need to be replaced, along with aging infrastructure in some water mains with cast iron pipes are still in use more than a hundred years after they were installed, and increasing the limit of current four inch and six inch water mains to eight inches. If the state loan request is approved, the year-long project could begin by September of 2025.
The Saugatuck City Council is also expected to approve a proposal from the Outdoor Discovery Center to take over the city’s airport property – about 170 acres in the area of 63rd Street and 134th Avenue – and convert it into a nature exploration area through a $130,000 gift from an anonymous donor.
The 7 PM business session is in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
