GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 28, 2024) – Another twist in the tail of the Lakeshore’s biggest road construction project of the season takes place on Monday.
The Michigan Department of Transportation’s Grand Rapids office announced on Friday that, due to the ongoing reconstruction of the eastbound lanes of Business 196, 120th Avenue/Waverly Road will be blocked off to through traffic, from Monday, April 29th, through Sunday, May 19th.
In addition, there will be intermittent road closures of 101st, 100th, 96th (State Street), 92nd (Maple St.), and 88th (Fairview St.) avenues that meet with the trunk roadway on April 29th and 30th. This work will be done from 7 AM to 7 PM, and only one intersection will be closed at a time.
Also, daily lane closures for westbound Business 196 between 88th and 104th avenues are slated, from 9 AM to 3 PM, from Monday through Friday of this coming week.
The $17 million-dollar, four and a half mile rebuild of the divided highway began on April 13th. The eastbound lanes are slated to reopen on August 1st, with the westbound lanes to then be blocked off through Thanksgiving.
The posted detour is US-31 and Adams Street/East 16th Street.
