PRESS RELEASE (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County health officials have announced the cancellation of a free drive-through COVID-19 testing event, set for Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020.
The recent surge in COVID-19 cases has caused an increase in the number of case investigations keeping county health officials very busy.
Michigan National Guard recently notified ACHD of limited availability of personnel to carry out the October 24 testing event.
“Local public health is mandated to complete case investigations related to infectious diseases, so we must prioritize these investigations to isolate the sick, quarantine the exposed and minimize the spread of COVID-19,” said Angelique Joynes, MPH, RN, the county’s health officer, in an email to media. “Testing events are important. We want to make sure we have the right resources available to make an event successful.”
Testing events remain scheduled for the following Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Allegan County Transportation Building, 750 Airway Drive in Allegan. Test dates are:
- Nov. 7
- Nov. 21
- Dec. 5
- Dec. 19
People needing free transportation can call Allegan County Transportation (ACT) at (269) 673-4229 before noon the day before the event.
“While we made a difficult decision to cancel this testing event, the availability of other places to get tested locally and regionally for COVID-19 was a big factor,” Joynes said. “Allegan County residents can find free testing sites on the State’s testing locator.”
