HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 23, 2024) – A 31-year-old Holland man remains behind bars on multiple charges stemming from a Saturday evening incident that begun and ended at a south side apartment community.
Dean Isom was arraigned on Monday in the 58th District Court on third-degree Fleeing and Eluding, Domestic Assault, Resisting and Obstructing an Officer, and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated counts. His bond was set at $30,000.
According to Department of Public Safety Captain of Administrative Services Bob Buursma, officers were dispatched to the Meadowlanes Townhomes complex off of Washington Avenue, south of West 40th Street, just before 9:30 PM, on a report of a domestic assault. The victim, a 40-year-old Holland woman, told authorities that her boyfriend had assaulted her before driving off.
The suspect’s vehicle was spotted a short time later parked on Cabill Drive, off of Lincoln Road (M-40), but when officers approached, Isom purportedly drove off and onto westbound I-196. A couple of miles later, the suspect turned into a emergency vehicle path on the median and then went west in the eastbound lanes. Police stopped the pursuit at that point for safety reasons, and described the suspect vehicle to Allegan County Central Dispatch.
Some time later, Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputies spotted the vehicle on eastbound I-196, heading back towards Holland, and another pursuit ensued. The chase eventually ended at the same Meadowlanes Townhomes unit where the assault occurred, where Holland Police were still at the scene. The driver, apparently aware of the situation, sped up and attempted to crash into the side of the victim’s unit, but concrete steps stopped the vehicle, preventing any substantial damage to the building.
After being treated for minor injuries at Holland Hospital, Isom was taken to the Allegan County Jail. The victim also went to Holland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the assault.
The incident remains under investigation.
