Scott P. Wyman of Holland died on April 17, 2024. He will be buried at Pilgrim Home Cemetery alongside his maternal grandparents and parents.
Wyman was born in San Diego, Calif. on July 2, 1945 and later, while still a child, was relocated by his parents without his permission to Holland. He graduated from Holland High School in 1963; Michigan State University in 1967; and, attended the University of California San Diego. He majored in communication arts.
Mr. Wyman was a combat journalist and naval intelligence photographer for the U.S. Navy Amphibious Force from 1968 through 1972. He served two combat tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Navy/Marine Achievement Medal with “Combat Valor” among other individual, unit citations and commendations. After being honorably discharged from the military, which could no longer afford his $384 per month pay, he resumed a 14 year career as a radio/television broadcaster in Michigan and a reporter/editor for the Associated Press (AP) in Detroit.
In 1981, Wyman joined the IBM Corp. in New York City. While with IBM for 11 years, he was a public relations, marketing and employee communications manager at White Plains, NY, San Jose Calif., Austin, Tex. and Bethesda, Md. In 1992, Wyman joined the Motorola Corp. in suburban Chicago. He retired in 2003 as corporate director of communications for the firm.
Wyman was preceded in death by his father, Arthur H. Wyman of Lenox, Mass., a World War II U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Colonel who fought in the Pacific; his mother, Phyllis (Pat) Tiesenga-Wyman-DePree of Holland and step-father, Hugh DePree, former CEO of Herman Miller, Corp. Wyman is survived by two daughters and three grandchildren residing in suburban St. Louis and suburban Detroit.
A brief graveside burial service with military honors, will take place on Tuesday, April 23rd at 1:00pm at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Holland.
