HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 16, 2024) – The League of Women Voters of the Holland Area has a couple of 90-minute public presentations and more on tap this week.
On Tuesday evening, from 7-8:30 PM at the offices of Latin Americans United for Progress (430 W. 17th St.), representatives from the league and from the non-profit group will give a bilingual program about the state’s new voting rights, have a sample voting site for participants to practice, go over upcoming elections in the area, and offer the opportunity for voter registration.
On Wednesday evening, from 6:30-8 PM at the Howard Miller Library in Zeeland (14 S. Church St.), the LWV hosts a candidate meet and greet involving those hopefuls for the Ottawa County District 2 Commission seat currently held by Republican Lucy Ebel. A successful recall petition drive has put her against Democratic challenger Christian Kleinjans in a special May 7th election to complete a two-year term through December, and both candidates have been invited to this event. Hopefuls for all of the other county board seats have also been asked to attend, with league officials saying that 14 have confirmed their participation.
The league is also holding a high school voter registration session on Thursday, from 10:15 to 11:45 AM, at West Ottawa High School (3685 Butternut Dr.) for those who are 17 1/2 years of age or older.
