KALAMAZOO, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 17, 2024) – Could there be a change in the wind in terms of having teens head to trade school rather than college?
The Better Business Bureau in Western Michigan’s Educational Foundation has unveiled its first annual Better Business Bureau Trades Scholarship. Open to graduates of the class of 2024 from schools in the 38-county service area of this BBB, which includes all of the Lakeshore, students must also employed by, or accepted an offer of employment, from a BBB-accredited business within the service area. Scholarships between $50 and $1,000 will be awarded, with some awardees receiving partial approval based on the number of awards and availability of funds.
Eligible trades include construction, welding, landscaping, painting, heating and cooling, auto and machinery repair, pest control, and tree removal. Some of the purchasing managers with these industries are polled monthly by Dr. Brian Long, Director of Supply Management Research with the Seidman College of Business at Grand Valley State University, to comprise his West Michigan Current Business Trends report.
The trucking and logistics industry is also hurting for help.
The first application window for this competitive BBB scholarship closes on May 3rd, with awards announced on May 24th. An online link for more information and eligibility is here.
