EAST LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 8, 2024) – One Lakeshore school is moving up, along with two of its Allegan County colleagues, in the latest reclassification of Michigan High School Athletic Association members announced last week.
Although the letter system of Class A, B, C and D is no longer used for tournament competition, these traditional designations are still in place for MHSAA elections. It’s based on eligible student counts submitted by member schools, with the goal of splitting these members in as equal of four amounts as possible.
Among the new 188 members of Class A are Plainwell and Wayland, while Fennville moves up from Class C to Class B. The Blackhawks had voluntarily asked for promotion to being among larger schools in tournament competition for Academic Years 2016 through 2018.
All MHSAA tournament classifications are now in numberic divisions, broken down by enrollment of participating schools in each sport.
