Louis Gonzales, age 79, of Holland, passed away on Monday, April 1, 2024 after a courageous battle with Cholangiocarcinoma. He was born on May 29, 1944, in Holland, to Ynes & Beatrice Gonzales. After graduating from Holland High School he served in the army in the Vietnam War, in the 101st Airborne Division. Louis worked at Hope College in the maintenance department until he retired. His journey on earth touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength and resilience. His unwavering spirit in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Louis is survived by his wife, Brenda; brothers, Ennis and Arthur and wife Linda; sisters, Mary Jane and husband Robert and Corina. Louis is also survived by his children, Beatrice, Louie, Tonya, Nicole, and Armondo Carlos; grandchildren, Carissa, Anissa, Hailey, Viviana, Junior, Brendan, Anibal, Gabriel, Armondo, Menah, Haiden, Haiven and his great grandchildren, Maeve, Hazel, Kenna, and Zuriya, who will forever hold dear his memory. Louis was preceded in death by his daughter, Yolanda; brothers, Frank and Ignacio and sister, Tomasa.
He will be remembered for his love, courage, and dedication to his family and country. He will be remembered for the stories he shared, his love of collecting, especially belt buckles, his love of music and car rides out to the beach and his enthusiasm for Halloween and any celebration with sweet treats.
May Louis rest in eternal peace, free from pain, and may his memory continue to bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

The funeral service to honor and celebrate Louis’ life will be held at 1:00pm, on Friday, April 5, at the Dykstra Funeral Home – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue, Holland. The family will receive visitors from 12:00pm to 12:45pm prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at Pilgrim Home Cemetery on 16th Street in Holland immediately following the funeral ceremony. The United States Army Honor Guard and V.F.W. Post 2144 will bestow military honors. Father Charles Hall will preside over the ceremonies.
A luncheon will be hosted at Holland Baptist Church at 4:30pm.
Funeral arrangements are under the auspices of the Northwood Chapel.
