ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 1, 2024) – A downtown Zeeland tradition will be spotlighted tonight.
During the biweekly Zeeland City Council meeting, Mayor Kevin Klynstra will issue a proclamation naming this Friday, April 5th, as “Frank’s Appreciation Day.” It’s to honor the Main Avenue restaurant that is celebrating it’s 100th anniversary as the longest-running eatery along the Lakeshore. April 5th was the birthday of restaurant founder Frank Dionise Sr., and the restaurant is planning to stage a large-scale centennial celebration later this summer.
Among the other items on the meeting agenda: An update on the downtown vision plan, focusing on a Washington Avenue sub-area proposal; a gateway improvements proposal for that east-west throughway; an agreement for leasing the parking lot of the Huntington Bank branch to increase shoppers’ access to downtown businesses; and a look at the city’s Strategic Action Plan.
The Zeeland City Council has a 6:30 PM study session ahead of the 7 PM business meeting, both being held in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
