SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 25, 2024) – Saugatuck may mean business when it comes to enforcing its new Short Term Rental ordinances.
During Monday evening’s business meeting, that Lakeshore community’s City Council is expected to approve a revised fine schedule for property owners who opt to have their residences occupied by renters on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Maximum levies for repeat offenders would be as much as five thousand dollars for running a STR without a license, 25 hundred dollars for exceeding maximum occupancy or not in compliance with zoning ordinances, a thousand dollars for failing to remedy violations or filing a fraudulent complaint about a STR, and more. Nearly a month ago, the city approved changes to short term rental policies aimed at addressing neighborhood concerns and policing issues.
