SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 21, 2024) – A Lakeshore community that has been working on addressing short term rentals will go over some proposed ordinance amendments late on Wednesday afternoon.
The Saugatuck City Council, during it’s 4 PM work-study session in the second floor meeting room of Saugatuck City Hall (102 Butler St.), considers changes put forward by the city’s STR Task Force, after that special panel had met for several months ahead of submitting its report last September. The Planning Commission then held meetings on the report before it drafted and approved the ordinance amendment that council will now review.
Among the proposals: Having STR owners renew licenses annually instead of every three years; clarifying who may occupy an accessory dwelling unit, the measurements of how a ADU should be measured, and when such a ADU can be rented; designated where certain STR dwellings and apartments can be located in the center of the city; placed restrictions on occupancy and visitors; addressed changes to the city’s noise ordinance in regards to STR dwellings; and more.
