HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 20, 2024) – A 47-year-old Holland man is recovering from a gunshot wound to his leg following a late Tuesday morning incident on Holland’s North Side.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, deputies were dispatched to the area of Lakewood Boulevard east of Roost Avenue around 11:45 AM. That was where the victim was located and was subsequently taken to an undisclosed local hospital. He was treated there for a non-life threatening wound and released.
On Tuesday evening, Sparks disclosed some further information as to the circumstances surrounding the incident. It appears that the victim had a handgun in his possession, as he met up with some persons whom he knew in a nearby retail parking lot, prior to when deputies encountered him at his residence. Between that meeting with those persons and when deputies arrived, the victim sustained his wound, which was believed to be accidentally self-sustained.
No suspects were taken into custody as of nightfall, and Sparks added that there is no known threat to the public as a result of the shooting. The matter remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
