He was born in Winslow, Indiana, on June 17, 1931. Elmer graduated from Oakland City High School and received a B.A. in business. He attended both Lockheed Business School and Indiana State University.
On March 20, 1964, he married Rose Wolters, and they shared life together for forty years until Rose passed away in 2004. At first Elmer worked as a teacher, but later had a career in social services for the states of Ohio and Michigan.
He was a longtime member of Immanuel Church, and had a passion for travel. Even when he lost his sight, Elmer enjoyed traveling through Michigan on fall color tours.
He is survived by his son Tim and daughter-in-law Rhoda, and by two grandchildren, Korry and Holly Burton.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 26, at Immanuel Church.
