LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 10, 2024) – If it was up some of those who were able to hunt deer at a Laketown Township annual event, they would want to play Robin Hood a little longer to stalk the king’s venison.
The annual Huyser Farm Archery Hunt for 2023 was held in conjunction with the state’s bow and arrow season, from October 1st through the 14th, and from December 1st through the 31st. A total of 15 hunters were selected by the township’s Parks and Recreation Commission from 27 who had applied, and they were allowed two weeks each to harvest the deer on the 102-acre sit off of 64th Street. The township reported that four hunters bagged deer during their hunt, twice as many as the year before.
Afterwards, each of the participants was asked to fill out a survey as to what they liked and didn’t like about the hunt, and what they would like to see changed. Some of the responses included extending the bowhunting season to include the two-week firearm period from November 15th through the 30th; unleashing dogs used in their hunts; and making sure that others who were in the park at the same time abided by the park rules, especially when it comes to picking up after their dogs.
Applications for the 2024 annual Huyser Farm Archery Hunt will be available from the Laketown Township office later this year.
