Bobby “Bob” Lee Moore, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, at the age of 84.
Born on March 5, 1939, in Meadowview, Virginia, Bob was one of nine children of Miles Moore and Myrtle (Rickman) Moore. He attended Bristol High School in Bristol, Tennessee, then attended Virginia Tech as part of the Corps of Cadets, graduating in 1962 with a degree in Science.
Bob’s unwavering commitment to his country led him to proudly serve in the Army during the Vietnam War, reaching the rank of Major as Infantry Unit Commander and earning a Bronze Star Medal and Army Commendation Medal with a First Oak Leaf cluster. Bob was a humble man, and he rarely spoke about his wartime service. When he and his wife attended a company reunion for the first time, 40 years later, his former soldiers were thrilled to see him. Many told stories of Bob’s kindness and conscientious as a servant leader, sometimes literally carrying their packs for them when they were too tired to continue.
After his military service, Bob worked as an accountant in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he met and married the love of his life, Linnay (Lokers). Bob and Linnay lived with their three children for over 30 years in Dayton, Ohio, where he was a much-respected colleague at Wolohan Lumber and a much-loved elder at Grace Bible Church.
Bob’s love of God and his Christian faith were very important to him, and he ministered to many groups of people in the community, including several years working with inmates at the Allegan County Jail. He was very involved with Haven Reformed Church and took great joy in serving others throughout his life.
One of his favorite things to do for others was to cook for them, especially his signature biscuits and gravy for Saturday breakfast and his famous dressing, gravy, and “upside down” turkey for Thanksgiving, as well as his often-requested brownies. He enjoyed gardening and spending time at the beach, mostly because these were his wife’s favorite activities, and he loved spending time with her.
Bob is survived by his wife, Linnay Moore; sons: David (Jill) Moore, of Gig Harbor, Washington; Jonathan (Sarina) Moore, of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania; five cherished grandsons: Henry (21), Aidan (19), Austin (17), Elliott (17), and Judson (13); as well as many extended family members, including brothers Gerald (Dana) Moore and Paul (Phyllis) Moore, and sisters Pauline (Fred) Buckles, Mavis (John) Snodgrass, Sylvia (Everett) Flick, and Nellie Jane Patrick.
Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Moore; his brother, Clyde Moore, and his sister, Evelyn Barnett.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Haven Reformed Church, 4691 Oak St, Hamilton, MI 49419. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place at the church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, in Hamilton.
