Gertrude Alice Zwiers (Gert)
Gert Zwiers passed away at the Jansen Cottage of Rest Haven Nursing Home on Monday, February 5, 2024 at the age of 82.
Gert was born in the family farmhouse in North Holland. This home is where she grew up and lived for much of her life. She was proceeded in death by her mother, Minnie (Alderink) Zwiers in 1954 and by her father, William Zwiers in 1991. Her older brother, Jim passed away in 2001.
She is survived by her brother, Marv and his wife Joyce and by her nieces, Elizabeth (Kip) Horton and their sons, Kelvin and Kody; Jennifer (David) Van Dyke and their children Katie and Gabe; and nephew Bill (Anita) Zwiers and their children, Olivia and Peter.
Through the years, Gert worked for Northern Fiber, Life Savers, Huntington Bank, Ver Hage Motors, Lamse Insurance and Herman Miller. While working, she made many dear friends who have lasted a lifetime. With these friends, she enjoyed playing golf, meeting for lunch, and shopping. Gert was a member of the American Business Women’s Association and presented Women of the Year Award in 1983. Her membership with the ABWA allowed her the opportunity to travel around the world, including places such as Hawaii, Europe, and Hong Kong.
Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Friday, February 9, 2024, at South Olive Christian Reformed Church, 6425 N. 120th Ave. Holland. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, February 8, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be alongside her brother in the Zeeland Cemetery following the church service. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to South Olive Mission Funds or to Holland Christian Schools.
